LOUISVILLE, FL — A quiet Saturday evening at a Burger King on Blanding Boulevard turned into a fatal scene of violence when 18-year-old employee Matthew Jackson was shot and killed during what authorities describe as a “senseless act of rage.”
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m., after a customer became enraged over a routine drive-thru dispute. Witnesses report the altercation began as a verbal disagreement before escalating to deadly violence.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the suspect — identified as 28-year-old Dawud Burritt — exited his vehicle and entered the restaurant after arguing with staff.
Investigators say Burritt then pulled out a firearm and opened fire inside the establishment, striking Matthew and another individual.
Employees and customers scrambled for safety as chaos erupted in the dining area.
First responders arrived within minutes, but despite aggressive life-saving measures from paramedics, Matthew Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim sustained injuries but survived. Authorities detained Burritt early Sunday morning, and he now faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder.
