GREENVILLE, Miss. — A quiet Tuesday evening turned violent in Greenville after shots rang out near a Sonic drive-thru, leaving a teenage boy dead and a young woman critically injured.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m., prompting multiple emergency calls and a rapid response from the Greenville Police Department.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two victims, a male and a female, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

First responders immediately began lifesaving efforts as bystanders watched in shock, unsure of what had triggered the sudden violence in the busy area.

Authorities identified the male victim as 17-year-old James Sutton. Despite efforts to save him, Sutton was pronounced dead a short time after police arrived.

The female victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to Delta Health in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to another medical facility for specialized care.
