A candlelight vigil in southwest Oklahoma City brought neighbors, classmates and family friends together this month to remember 6-year-old Adrian Salgado, a Fillmore Elementary first grader who died after being struck by a school bus near his school.
Police say the crash happened Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2025, as the Oklahoma City Public Schools bus was traveling east on SW 51st Street and turned onto S. Douglas Avenue.
Investigators said Adrian was crossing nearby when he was hit and became trapped beneath the rear wheels of the bus.
Adrian was rushed to OU Health, but police confirmed he died at the hospital.
In the hours afterward, school officials and community members began sharing tributes to the child, described by those who knew him as energetic and bright.
The vigil—reported by local media as taking place Friday night—became a focal point for the grief surrounding the case, as people gathered with candles and prayers to support the Salgado family and to honor Adrian’s memory.
Oklahoma City Police have not announced criminal charges in connection with the crash.
Officials said the bus driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating as investigators work to document what happened.
Oklahoma City Public Schools issued a statement extending condolences to the family and the school community, calling the loss “devastating” and noting that support services were being made available for students and staff affected by the death.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police reviewing evidence and witness information as they complete the standard process used in serious traffic fatalities involving pedestrians.
